American Electric Power (AEP) agreed to buy up to 1.6 gigawatts of mobile power generators from Mainspring Energy for potentially more than $4 billion over eight years, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing an interview with Mainspring CEO Tom Linebarger.
Mainspring will install the first 190 megawatts in 2027, with AEP holding an option to order another 200 megawatts annually through 2034, the report said.
AEP hasn't decided where to deploy the units or whether they will connect to regional grids or directly serve data centers, the report said, citing a separate interview with Chief Commercial Officer Greg Hall.
